Speech and Debate Team

The University of Jamestown Speech and Debate Team is an active team in both the areas of Speech and Debate. We welcome new and veteran members to the team, and have members that range from beginners to seasoned competitors.

The Speech and Debate Team practices two types of debate:

• NPDA (National Parliamentary Debate Association)
• IPDA (International Public Debate Association)

We attend both online and in person debate tournaments during the year and attend at least one national tournament as well.

The Speech Team includes all individual events (IE) categories:

• Prose
• Poetry
• Programmed Oral Interpretation (POI)
• Dramatic Interpretation
• Duo
• Informative
• Persuasive
• After Dinner Speaking
• Communication Analysis
• Impromptu
• Extemporaneous Speaking

The Speech and Debate Team participates in the fraternal organization, Pi Kappa Delta.

The coach, Dr. Jonna Reule, is Past President of the Communication Speech and Theatre Association of North Dakota (CSTAND) and she still serves on the editorial board for the state journal, as well as participates as an active member. Coach Jonna participated in Lincoln Douglas Debate as well in Speech in High School. While at North Dakota State University, she participated in parliamentary debate and on the speech team. She has been judging and mentoring speakers and debaters for almost three decades and is thrilled to bring her expertise to the University of Jamestown.
