Our athletic facilities were built for athletes and fans alike, pairing state-of-the art equipment with an exciting Jimmie atmosphere. Since 2017, we’ve invested in fully renovating and building brand-new facilities. And it shows. Now, you can cheer on your favorite teams in professional-level stadiums and arenas.

The Harold Newman Arena

Harold Newman Arena and UJ Practice Turf

You will be cheering on the Jimmies in this exciting venue while listening to the bell tower ring after every UJ win! This $15 million, 61,000 square foot facility features a full-size basketball court, arena seating for 2,000, eight locker rooms and an adjacent turf field. It also houses:

  • A large booster room overlooking the court
  • The Jimmie Athletic Hall of Fame
  • Two small lounges
  • A large laundry room for the athletic programs
  • Two concessions areas
  • A ticket booth

The arena’s athletic training facility includes a place for athletic trainers to work with student-athletes on development and rehabilitation. The space also includes training tables, treadmills and stationary bikes.

The arena has approximately 2,000 seats with some room for overflow guests and features a large foyer area that is accessible to the community for events. The Jim and MoDean McCullough Foyer seats up to 300 guests.

Charlotte and Gordon Hansen Stadium

Charlotte and Gordon Stadium is where UJ’s football and track and field teams practice and compete.

Cheer on your Jimmie Football and Track & Field teams in this fully renovated stadium. $11.7 million dollars in renovations took place in 2020-2021 to this facility. The upgrades included a new artificial turf playing surface and 9-lane, 400-meter track with new jump and throwing areas.

A total renovation of the home-side seating area included:

  • A brand-new press box and suite facility
  • Lights and parking lot upgrades
  • A new video-board and sound system

Jo-Ida Hansen Athletic Complex and Foss Wellness Center

(L to R) The Jo-Ida Hansen Athletic Complex houses coach’s offices, a 12,000 square foot gym that includes batting cages, three basketball courts and a 160-meter indoor track. Recent upgrades include the Foss Wrestling Room, Scott D. Peterson Weight Room and Worner Family Golf Center. The Foss Wellness Center facilities open to students, staff, and faculty to improve of physical and mental health. The Foss is also home to the Department of Kinesiology and includes a hands-on Physio Lab for Exercise Science and Physical Education majors.

Nelson Family Bubble

The Nelson Sports Bubble was recently inflated on UJ campus to provide year-round space for athletic and wellness activities.

The Nelson Family Bubble is an indoor athletic facility designed to provide year-round space for sports like soccer and softball. Located next to the Harold Newman Arena, benefits all students by supporting strength training, club activities, and academic programs in education and exercise science.

Other facilities

UJ shares additional athletic facilities with the community, including baseball and softball fields, a hockey arena, golf course, and pool.
