Video and Photo Gallery: Faculty celebrate nursing excellence and welcome new students
The University of Jamestown Nursing Department welcomed its incoming sophomores and honored several students and healthcare professionals at its induction ceremony Jan. 7, 2025, in DeNault Auditorium.
Once the new nursing students were inducted, the department awarded 2002 Jamestown College nursing alumna Jami (Ogren) Falk with the Nursing Excellence Award. Falk is the chief nurse in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Primary Care and she spoke to the students and the gathered audience about her career and shared advice for the future nurses.
The nursing faculty called students on stage who had joined the Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society for recognition before giving out a special award to students and health care workers who sprang into action during an emergency on campus.
Nursing Professor Dr. Teree Rittenbach had been teaching a class in fall 2024 when several of her students recognized she was suffering from symptoms of a stroke and began the process to get her immediate life-saving care. The UJ nursing faculty awarded these seven students with the new Guardian Angel Award.
The faculty also gave the Guardian Angel Award to the ambulance crew and the nurses and doctors of Jamestown Regional Medical Center and Sanford Health who provided Rittenbach with emergency care.
