University of Jamestown Choirs Start Spring Tour on the Right Note at Home
Members are embarking on a seven-city, four-day tour.
JAMESTOWN, N.D.: The University of Jamestown Concert Choir and Men’s Choir will be kicking off their Spring 2024 Choir Tour in Jamestown at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Sunday, March 3 at 9 a.m.
The first event will be part of the church service, allowing the entire community to sing and pray together. Those in attendance can look forward to the Concert Choir and Men’s Choir performing uplifting texts about singing for joy, unity, and moments of time in nature. The service is free and open to the public, with a free-will donation following.
Jamestown is the Choir’s first stop on a seven-city, three-day tour. Other performance locations include Fargo, North Dakota, and the Minnesota cities of Dodge Center, Rochester, Maple Grove, St. James, and St. Michael. A complete tour schedule can be found at uj.edu/ChoirTour.
Under the direction of Dr. Anne Gassmann, the UJ Choral Area is continuing the legacy of the Concert Choir while expanding its offerings through Chapel Choir and Men’s Choir.
“We are dedicated to choral excellence while being an inclusive community, encouraging everyone to continue singing, no matter their major or level of experience,” said Gassmann.
UJ singers represent most academic majors on campus and are heavily involved in other activities like student senate, residence life, and many athletic teams.
“Students are thrilled to study and perform diverse musical works that represent a variety of historical and cultural perspectives, allowing them to enhance their understanding of the larger community,” said Gassmann.
The Men’s Choir, a tenor/bass ensemble, and Chapel Choir, a treble ensemble, are not auditioned and give students the opportunity to travel locally as outreach for schools and churches. The UJ Concert Choir continues the 80+ year tradition of annual concert tours throughout the United States and travels abroad every four years.
