Meet Lilyanna Miller – GHD
Why did you choose to come to UJ?
I came to UJ on a visit, and I really liked the people, the campus, its size, and the culture. I visited UJ as a transfer student (coming in second semester of freshman year), and the people were so welcoming and so passionate about UJ, it was an easy decision to make.
Are you involved in anything on campus?
Student Engagement Team, Student Senate, Welcome Weekend, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, Orchestra, Pep Band, Intercultural Student Organization, Jimmie Janes, club tennis/pickleball, one acts and theatre
Why did you choose those activities?
Because they allow me to do things that I love and explore my interests. While being involved in these activities, I’ve learned so much about myself and met so many wonderful people. I really recommend being as involved as possible, because you never know what kind of opportunities you’ll get or the people you’ll meet.
Is there a particular person or event that stands out as a memory you’ll hold on to?
I’ve been on the SET team since my sophomore year. A memory that will always stand out for me is when I ran my very first SET event. It was a midterm trail mix bar that we set up outside of the cafe. I was supervising the table and someone thanked me for putting it together and told me that I made their day. That’s a memory that I’m going to hold onto for a long time.
What would you say to someone considering coming to UJ?
Come to UJ. You’re going to meet incredible people and get incredible opportunities. There are endless things to do and learn, and you won’t regret committing to the University of Jamestown.
Why should someone choose UJ on Giving Hearts Day?
UJ has become my home away from home for me. There are endless people here who care about you and want to see you succeed. They’re all so willing to answer your questions and help you in any way they can. There’s a culture of caring and success. It’s a great place to get your education and figure out what your next steps are.
