Meet Gabi Oberg – GHD
Why did you choose to come to UJ?
When I was looking for a college, I knew I wanted somewhere small that felt like home and when I went on my tour of our campus I just knew UJ was the place where I should be. Every-one was so kind and I saw so many opportunities for me to grow as a person during my four years.
Are you involved in anything on campus?
I am currently involved in theatre, Student Engagement Team, Senate, Welcome Weekend, and Book Club.
Why did you choose those activities?
Because I wanted a chance to make a difference on this campus and leave it better than I found it. I also saw older Jimmies having such a great time doing these things and they convinced me that I would be good at them too!
Is there a particular person or event that stands out as a memory you’ll hold on to?
I am the 2024 Knight Award recipient and that is one of the biggest honors I have ever received. My advisors for SET, Sara Robinson and Addie Nybo, nominated me and managed to get my friends and family there without me even knowing. I have had the best time at UJ and worked hard to make it better than I found it and that moment felt like a culmination of all my hard work. I am so incredibly thankful!
What would you say to someone considering coming to UJ?
If you are looking for a place where you can truly feel a sense of belonging and community this is the place for you. We at UJ want you to be who you are and will happily help and watch you flourish your whole time here!
UJ is a place where a freshly graduated person can become whoever they want to be. There are so many opportunities on our campus to find yourself and flourish. Donations help keep the multitude of opportunities open to our students to explore and become their best selves.
