38th Annual Dine & Bid Visits Winner’s Circle for Academic Support
JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The University of Jamestown hosted its 38th Annual Dine & Bid benefit auction with a Kentucky Derby theme, resulting in an unprecedented fundraising total of $480,000 for student scholarships, surpassing last year’s total of $434,000.
“The record is a testament to the unwavering community support for the University’s commitment to upholding the value of higher education and providing access to student co-curricular experiences that foster personal, spiritual and professional growth,” said UJ President Dr. Polly Peterson. “It exemplifies the deep appreciation the University’s board of trustees, alumni, and friends have for the educational value provided by UJ.”
Todd Steinwand, President, and CEO of Bank of North Dakota and UJ Board of Trustee Chairman, agreed, expressing his gratitude for receiving a UJ education: “I graduated from UJ, and it taught me the value of connections, to think critically and that character matters. These are attributes that I have used in my entire career.”
Event attendees dressed to impress in fascinators and bowler hats while enjoying mint juleps and champagne. An exclusive culinary highlight of the evening was coffee-rubbed steak cuts from Butcher’s Edge. The live and silent auction showcased exclusive items and experiences while entertainment included banter from co-hosts Warren Abrahamson and Tara Kapp, student performances, and a big-screen horse race.
Lead sponsors included Mobile Pro, Valley Sales, Anne Carlsen Center, JE Dunn, Orn Family Dentistry and Sodexo alongside more than 500 donors and attendees. The culmination of the evening’s “raise your paddle” segment resulted in $250,650.
“Scholarships play a vital role in ensuring access to higher education, especially in the face of rising tuition costs across the country,” remarked UJ President Dr. Polly Peterson. “We are committed to providing avenues for students to achieve their academic and professional potential, and the funds raised at the Dine & Bid gala directly contribute to this mission.”
Just as the Kentucky Derby represents a time-honored tradition of excellence and achievement, the University’s scholarship program embodies empowering students to reach new heights of success.
The University’s “Together We Rise” campaign will expand on UJ’s academic offerings with online leadership, MBA and nursing degree programs—all of which are enrolling students starting now for fall enrollment.
The campaign will also create the Unruh School of Character in Leadership transforming the campus by renovating the Voorhees Chapel and creating a multidisciplinary space and connectivity between buildings.
