BIO
Joan Morris is a native of Jamestown, ND. She graduated with her BSBA (Summa Cum Laude) and Master of Accountancy degrees from the University of North Dakota (UND). After graduation, she taught full time in UND’s Department of Accounting and Business Law. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Management Accountant (CMA).
Joan worked as an auditor for Ernest and Young in Minneapolis, MN and taught part time at the University of Minnesota. She moved to Chicago, IL to work for Abbott Laboratories where she was an International Auditor, International Accountant, Corporate Financial Reporting Accountant and a Controller in the Pharmaceutical Products Division. Upon returning to North Dakota, Joan was a controller at various manufacturing plants and taught part time at the University of Jamestown.
Professional Affiliations and Memberships
Joan is a member of the American Institute of CPA’s, ND Society of CPA’s, and the American Institute of Management Accountants.
She is currently serving as a Stutsman County Commissioner and is a member of the Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce’s Beautification Committee. Joan is a board member of the Jamestown Community Foundation, serves on the Finance Committee of the Two Rivers Activity Center (TRAC) and is a member of Rotary International. She is a board member of the Coalition of Families of Korean & Cold War POW/MIA’s. She also serves on the steering committee for Daily Bread – Jamestown program, which rescues prepared food and distributes it to hungry individuals in the area. She is past president of the Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce, and past board member of Jamestown Area Senior Citizens Center, Jamestown Arts Center, and the Foundation of Advancement for Christian Education (FACE).
Favorite Class to Teach
Joan’s favorite class to teach is Cost/Managerial Accounting, as she spent her career years managing all financial aspects at various factories.
Awards
Joan was awarded the 2014 Chamber of Commerce’s “Above and Beyond” award for volunteering in the Jamestown area. She is also a three-time Abbott Laboratories’ Presidential award recipient.
