Biography

Dr. Voorhees is the Program Director (since 2017) and Associate Professor in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at the University of Jamestown, Fargo, ND.

Dr. Voorhees has a Master in Physical Therapy (2003) and Doctor of Philosophy (2008) from the University of Delaware. She has current physical therapy licensure in North Dakota, Minnesota, and Virginia.

From 2008-2013, Dr. Voorhees was a practicing physical therapist and research assistant at the Anderson Orthopaedic Clinic and Anderson Orthopaedic Research Institute in Alexandria, VA; she has expertise in patient care, primarily in post-operative surgical rehabilitation (e.g. joint replacement, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, and rotator cuff repair). Dr. Voorhees’s experience at the Anderson Orthopaedic Clinic added to her knowledge and understanding of research methodology and design and provided insight into the translation of evidence into practice.

Dr. Voorhees’ continuing education and expertise includes Certified Exercise Expert for the Aging Adult (2017) and is a Fellowship graduate from the APTA’s Educational Leadership Institute (2018). Dr. Voorhees’ current scholarship agenda is investigating urinary incontinence in persons before and after total hip arthroplasty. Funding was procured to test additional subjects before and after total hip arthroplasty, as this study continues. Dr. Voorhees also is studying how cardiac rehabilitation reduces kinesiophobia (fear of movement) in patients after a cardiac event, with data collection underway.

Dr. Voorhees has experience mentoring, as she has served on PhD dissertation committees, as well as two other core faculty, who presented data at national conferences. She serves the community and the program by working with patients/clients in the Program’s Pro Bono Clinic, located at Family HealthCare in Fargo. She is also a member of the Program’s Assessment Committee, and the Admissions Committee. Dr. Voorhees serves the as Chair of the institution’s Institutional Review Board (IRB), ensuring the institution’s responsible conduct of research. Dr. Voorhees serves the profession as chair of ACAPT’s Resource Subcommittee of the Leadership Development Committee.
